TRE®

Tension, Stress & Trauma Release Exercises

Stress Release and Nervous System Regulation

TRE® (Tension, Stress & Trauma Release Exercises) is a simple method designed to help release deep muscular tension and stress from the body. It supports the nervous system’s natural capacity to recover after prolonged pressure, overload, or challenging life experiences.

TRE® works directly with the body – not through analysis, diagnosis, or talking about the past – but by activating an innate recovery mechanism that allows tension to discharge naturally.

What is TRE®?

TRE® is a method developed by Dr. David Berceli, originally in the context of trauma recovery and stress regulation. Today, it is used worldwide as a self-regulation and well-being practice.

The method consists of a short series of physical exercises that activate a natural reflex in the body. This reflex may lead to neurogenic tremors – spontaneous, involuntary shaking or trembling that helps the body release excess muscular tension.

This tremoring mechanism is something the body already knows how to do. In TRE®, it is allowed to emerge in a controlled, gradual, and safe way.

The experience of TRE® varies greatly from person to person. For some, the tremors are very subtle. For others, they may be more visible or felt as waves, warmth, or gentle movement. Some people notice emotional or mental shifts; others experience purely physical relaxation. All of these responses are normal.

Research and Reported Benefits

TRE® is informed by research on stress, trauma, and nervous system regulation, as well as by clinical and field-based observations from its use in a wide range of contexts worldwide.

People who practice TRE® have reported benefits such as:

  • reduced stress and muscular tension

  • improved sleep and recovery

  • increased sense of calm and ease

  • greater capacity to regulate after demanding situations

  • Relief from PTSD symptoms

  • Increased energy and endurance

Individual experiences vary, and TRE® does not aim to produce specific outcomes. The practice supports the body’s natural capacity for regulation rather than targeting symptoms.

I’ve written an essay exploring the connection between TRE® and women’s sexual wellbeing, and how stress, tension, and protective patterns in the body can shape pleasure and sensation over time. You can access the essay here.

TRE® Group Courses

TRE® can be taught and practiced in group settings. Group-based TRE® courses offer a structured and accessible way to learn the method in a supportive environment.

TRE® group courses are suitable for:

  • workplaces and professional communities

  • organizations and teams experiencing high levels of stress or load

  • private groups and communities interested in stress regulation and body-based self-care

Group courses typically introduce:

  • the background and principles of TRE®

  • the body’s natural tremoring mechanism

  • safe self-regulation and pacing

  • guidance on practicing TRE® independently

Group sessions are guided with care and clear structure. Sharing is always voluntary, and participants are invited to listen to their own boundaries and capacity throughout the process. The emphasis is on bodily awareness, self-regulation, and respectful presence within the group.

TRE® for Individuals

Individual TRE® sessions offer a more personalized setting and allow the pace and guidance to be adapted to each person’s needs and experience.

Individual sessions are suitable if you:

  • prefer one-to-one guidance

  • want more time to familiarize yourself with the TRE® process

  • wish to explore self-regulation at a slower or more contained pace

TRE® individual sessions are non-clinical and non-diagnostic. They do not involve therapeutic processing or analysis, but focus on learning and practicing the TRE® method in a respectful and contained way.

TRE® Introduction Session

2,5 hours
During this session, you will be introduced to the background and principles of TRE®, and guided step by step into the body’s natural tremoring mechanism in a safe and supported way. After an introduction session, many people are able to practice TRE® independently at home, at their own pace.

Follow-up Sessions

1 hour
Follow-up sessions offer continued guidance, support, and refinement of the TRE® practice. Sessions are adapted to your experience level and focus on supporting nervous system regulation, self-awareness, and safe pacing.

Individual sessions are offered by request.
Please contact me to inquire about availability.
